The Altman Brothers’ just listed a Los Angeles Landmark known as Los Tiempos or the Dorothy Chandler Estate, famous for its residents, architecture, guests, events, and location. Local residents may recognize this name because of Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, located in Downtown Los Angeles. The music hall was named after Chandler, who took lifelong residency on Lorraine Boulevard, for being one of the most influential cultural philanthropists in Los Angeles and American history. She became a significant social and political force strong enough to save the Hollywood Bowl in 1950, when it closed due to a financial crisis, because of the unique combination of her passion for supporting the arts and higher education, her husband Norman Chandler — publisher of the Los Angeles Times 1945 to 1960 and the estate later coined The White House of the West for its presidential guests like Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon.

In 1964 Time Magazine praised Chandler for her fundraising as “perhaps the most impressive display of virtuoso money-raising and civic citizenship in the history of U.S. womanhood.” The estate, its lavishly appointed music room and it's almost acre of grounds were often the venue for her philanthropic passion which leads to it being registered as a Historic-Cultural Monument in 2004. The landmark estate is a classic example of American Beaux Arts architecture, an academic neoclassical style heavily influenced architecture in the US from 1880 to 1920. At the time of its conception in 1913, the estate was already receiving notoriety for its design by renowned architects J. Martyn Haenke, William Dodd, and Julia Morgan of Hearst Castle fame.

The trophy residence is displayed in the historic Windsor Square, a residential development that has grown since its beginnings in 1911 when the prominent financier, George A.J. Howard, envisioned a beautiful tranquil park as a setting for upscale family homes. As a result of its expensive deed minimum — at the time an enormous amount of $12,550 per home, many outstanding architects designed homes for the area just east of Hancock Park, including Paul Williams and A.C. Martin. Many of the city’s elite owned property in Windsor Square including Oil magnate John Paul Getty who bought a property on Irving Blvd that is now Los Angeles’s official mayor’s residence. The area was designated a City of Los Angeles Historic Preservation Overlay Zone on September 29, 2004. Since then the estate underwent a major five-year restoration and upgrade by the current owners. The current owners added a Creston control system, new plumbing system (with soft water system & filter), new drainage, new sewer line, updated electrical system, new roofs and copper gutters, hand-made, carved custom cabinetry throughout, 400 year old French limestone floors in kitchen, security cameras, new alarm system, new swimming pool with Ozone system, new landscaping, new irrigation system, outdoor lighting and countless other major upgrades.
